However, the Build Phase involves significant capital outlay, with the cost of build estimated at £1.8 million over three years.
Hence, we are keen to engage with national funding bodies, trusts and foundations, business and enterprise, private donors and the general public to build positive, mutually beneficial partnerships that will bring this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to life.

Sponsor a Plank (or Something Bigger) - Leave your mark on maritime history by sponsoring a major component of Muirneag’s construction—such as the keel, mast, or rudder.
Brand partnerships - Visually striking, and clearly linked to a number of marketable themes, SV Muirneag has strong potential as a compelling addition to marketing activities across a range of sectors. Taking a collaborative and flexible approach, we will work with partners and clients to ensure maximum impact and return on investment across a variety of use-cases. For examples; have your corporate name on the hull, transom, sails or other parts of this striking vessel.
Sponsorship in kind through donation or discounting of key components of the build (e.g. Sails, Engines and propulsion, Navigation equipment and electronics, Safety equipment, Paint and finishes, running rigging, Fittings and winch gear.
Team building opportunities – bring your team to be part of the build and learn some heritage boatbuilding skills (a range of packages can be arranged depending on numbers and time).
Forward selling of charter opportunities (once operational) for team building, conferences or as a unique board meeting location (at berth or under sail).
If you see this as a good fit to the ethos of your foundation or trust please do get in touch. As of Q2 2025, we have been successful in a stage-one application to Heritage Lottery for £425,000 – just over 20% of the total project cost.
Once there is line of sight to the remainder of the funding being in place the stage two application can be completed to secure these funds. This provides confidence in the credibility and viability of the project. In the UK, HMRC offers various avenues for individuals, sole traders, and companies to deduct charitable contributions from their tax liabilities. This can make a significant difference to charities such as ours as it can provide an uplift in donations at no cost to you.
For donors who would like to donate via our sponsor a plank scheme our crowdfunding site provides the opportunity to include Gift Aid which enables our charity to claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate.
Gift Aid can also be claimed against larger donations from companies.

If your employer, company or personal pension provider runs a Payroll Giving scheme you can donate straight from your wages or pension. This happens before tax is deducted from your income.
This means that if you donate £1 you actually only pay 81p as a starter rate taxpayer in Scotland, or 52p if you’re a top rate taxpayer. This is a super tax efficient way of donating either as an individual or maybe as a whole company you would like to encourage your staff to donate to Muirneag in this way.
